I agree with Jilly – thanks Velvet for your dedication to Gambling Therapy site & to all at GT as I can say it is truly a place that has helped ground me during weaker moments.
My thought for the day is to continue to focus on the positives the future holds for us & remind myself (when I forget) not to regret the past but as in Meglee’s quote – to accept it is part of our journey in this life & what has made us who we are!

    Hi Lily
    I’m so glad you posted!
Reading much of your post is like the story of my own experience – & as you probably also think when reading others posts about their experiences with an active CG it is uncanny how similar our dealings are.
I was totally blown away when I came accross this site to read others posts literally say what I was thinking – wow did I begin to feel sane then!!!!- it is the first time I truly began to understand this very sad addiction – & also the first time I began to truly come to peace with my own decision like you to leave my active CG –
Like your story Lily, having spent time with an active CG spouse we do come out emotionally battered & bruised, & as in my case pretty much in financial ruin!! but I’ve no regrets – today I am so relieved I had the courage to go it alone & not accept that the addiction continue to control my life.
Step by step we can rebuild our finances (without the burden of an active CG draining funds) – & one day at a time we can rebuild our lives – for us & for the better of our childrens future.
We have to come to the acceptance that we are not responsible for the CG – or their recovery, we are responsible only for our own personal recovery.
So, thanks again for your post – we are no longer victims to gambling addiction & that is worth celebrating!

    Hi Kathryn
Am glad you liked the letter – I just couldn’t resist posting it when I read it, it’s so sad but it also has hope within it! –
I got it from a thread entitled a return to old ways, by familyman in MY JOURNAL forum
Would you believe I even emailed a copy of it to my ex spouse who is an active CG & who has stepped out of my & my childrens lives – although he doesn’t want anything to do with us, I still couldn’t resist the urge to send him that & this website address! always with the hope that although I wasn’t able to be his team mate in beating the addiction that maybe, just maybe a lightbulb will go off on his head & he may decid to help himself! In my heart it would be a dream come true, if at least for the children to be able to enjoy a DAD! one can never lose hope for the future!
All my best wishes to you in your recovery – you are very courageous in accepting that you have an addiction & even more courageous to be fighting it! well done……..There’s always light at the end of the tunnel even if sometimes you have to try really hard to see it!
