Hi, the date of your last bet has changed; what you have learned in recvery hasn’t. Get back to doing the things that worked. I would suggest not havign access to those sums of money – if we can’t instantly act on an urge then it has chance to weaken.
charlesModeratorHello and thanks for starting a thread in the Gambling Therapy forums

We understand that this might be a tough time for you, particularly if you’re new to recovery, so come here as often as you need to and participate in the forums, access online groups and connect to the live advice helpline if you need one to one support. We’re in this together!
Here on the forum you can share your experiences in a safe, supportive and accepting environment. The beauty of writing it all down is that you can take your time and you will be creating a record of your progress that you can look back on if it ever feels like you’re not moving forward. So, share as much or as little as you like but do try to stick to keeping just one thread in this forum so people know where to find you if they want to be updated on your progress or share something with you.
As well as the forums New Members are invited to join Charles in the New Members Practical Advice Group On Mondays at 21:00 (UK) and Thursday at 19:00(UK)
And on that note….
I’m going to hand you over to our community because I’m sure they will have some words of wisdom for you 🙂
Take care

charlesModeratorHi Seunzee, well done on your gamble free time. How have you been filling your time away from gambling?
charlesModeratorHi Seunzee,
What can you do? That’s a good sign, because DOING is a lot more effective than words, promises, even intentions. Well you can exclude from that site, you can get a blocker which will make it harder to sign up to other siters. You lost that amount of money because you had access to that amount of money – what things can you put in place to limit that access? What forms of accountability?
Keep posting here, hopefully we can talk in a group here soon as well.
charlesModeratorHi Akinade, well doen on looking for help.
You have posted in the Residential Treatment Forum so first I will give you this link. https://gordonmoody.org.uk/ You will see details of the residential support provided there and how to start the application process.
You can also get a lot of support here. Check out the My Journal Forum and you wil read a lot that you will relate to. You will also see the success stories and the sorts of thigns that have helped others stop. I suggest starting a thread there and posting your own story – you will get a lot of support.
Maybe I will see you in a group here as well – there is a lot of life after gamblign I promise you.
charlesModeratorHi and well done on looking for help.
As you say, words aren’t enough, sounds like your wife will have heard them all before anyway, I know my family had.
It reeally is actios that count. The actions that will help you stop gambling are the same actions that might help rebuild that trust. Actions like posting here regularly, maybe getting to your local Gamblers Anonymous meeting if one is near. Deleting everythign on your phone is a positive move; a better one would be to ask your usual sites to ban you and then install a blocker to prevent you signing up at others. Accountability and limiting your easy access to funds with which to gamvel also helps. The accountability will mean you can’t gambvel secretly, your wife will both see you aren’t gambling, which can help with the trust, and also have the peace of mind that you aren’t out there digging another hole.
Show her this site as well – she can get her own support in the Friends and Family Forum.
Keep posting and let us know what positve actions you are taking.
charlesModeratorHi, notyoung. You are right, there is nothing we can do to change the past. We also need to not gamble today, with gambling one day at a time is achieveable.
Some thigns we can plan for though, some things it”l help our recovery to plan for.
We might plan how we are going to keep ourselves safe when the next payday comes.
We might plan the strategy we will use the next time we get any gambling thoughts.
We can plan how we are going to fill our time tomorrow so that both that time and our thoughts are filled away from gambling.
There is a big race meetign coming up in UK in a couple of months – I will certainly plan ahead how I will be spending that week and which TV/radio I will be listening to so that I am less likly to hear anyrhing about it.
There are also some thing we may need to do that require planning – holidays, weekends away, a meal out with friends and family – not gambling one day at a time allows us to plan those things knowing that we will have been less likely to have blown our money the day before. Some of the things we love to do and plan for are also what shows us the benefits of recovery and make it worth the effort of continuing to work recovery.
Keep posting and continue to be gamble free, one day at a time. We all enjoy different things and I hope you get to plan some of the thigns you love to do away from gambling.

charlesModeratorHi Ineedhelp.
You can stop I promse yopu.
OK, this time in 7 – 8 days when the urges return you can already be excluded from your usual sites – do that now, today, before the urge return. There are also blockers you can install which will stop you being able to register at other sites.
This time in 7 – 8 days you can put things in place so that you don’t have that easy, instant access to funds with whch to gamble. What accountability can you put in place?
This time in 7 – 8 days you can be postiung here, you can be connecting to teh groups, you will have the option of hopping on the helpline to talk about things.
This time in 7 – 8 days you might already have attended your first Gamblers Anonymous meeting or connected to other support.
Read the other stories here, you will see a lot that you will relate to. You will also read the succerss stories – what are they doin that you can apply to your own situation?
Keep posting and let us know the positive actions that you are taking. Hopefully I will see you in a group here soon as well.
charlesModeratorHi Ceuising, well done on getting back here.
What can you o differently this time?
Keep posting, both now while you want to stop and then the trick is to keep posting to help stay stopped.
What other support could you use as well?
Maybe see you ina group here soon as well.
charlesModeratorHi Jvr, great achievement, well done.
I will say the same thing I have often heard at GA – the first year is the hardest to get……it is also the hardest to keep! Keep doing the thigns that are working for you. 🙂
charlesModeratorHi Yoyo,
Sounds like you have a site you can access? How about asking them to exclude you? How about getting a blocker for your devices? How can you limit the instant access to gambling funds so that you can’t instantly act on an urge? Who could help you with financial accoutability?
Keep posting and maybe I will see you in a group here soon as well.
