Many thanks for your kind words I Did Tit, as i said elsewhere it is YOU who did the hard work; you deserve your success and deserve to enjoy your recovery.

Thanks too to those who have popped in to the groups to say hi and bye, as always you ahve been most welocme.

To everyone I have spokewn to over the years it has ben a priviledge to be part of your recovery, keep using support – if we could do it on our own then noine of us would be here.

Remember, recovery isn’t a punishment, it id for enjoying. I certainly enjoy mine 🙂

    Hi asd,

Well done on looking for help.

You have had a gamble free period so the good news is that you know you can stop. The trick is to stay stopped!

Barriers will help, where has your recent gambling been? You can get yourself excluded, if it is online then you can get a blocker for your devices. How have you funded it? Accountability and removing minstant access to funds helps, it means we can no longer act secretly and quickly if we get an urge. Who could help with that?

Most importantly of all is support. If we need it to stop gambli9ng then we should keep using it to help maintain recovery. Whether that is posting here regularly, getting to Gamblers Anonymous meetigns or other support. If we could do it on our own then none of us would be here in the first place.

    Keep posting.

Hi IDI, thank you for your kind words elsewhere. I am glad you found support here but remember it is still YOU who have doen the hard work so be proud.

You deserve your success, we all deserve recovery.

Thanks for giving us an update – if there is one thing I like to hear about more than someone not gambling it is to hear how they are enjoying their gamble free time and the things they are doing instead.

I am glad that you are no longer sad 🙂

Hi Sarah, I’ve just been reading through your thread. Looks like a few replies have been deleted so my apologies if I repeat something that has already been said.

First I’ll try and answer your question about the “reported” post. I’m not sure where that post was but any forum user can click on “report” so I don’t know why it happened in this case or who it was that reported it. I do know, having read the copy of your text here, that there was nothing wrong with it and no action would have been taken 🙂

You are already taking positive actions and starting to address thigns. If you are frightened about what might happen on pay day then make sure you put thigns in place before payday then it just becomes….a day. 🙂 We all know that no money = no gambling, we useually found that out when we lost it! Now use that in recovery. It would still be your money of course, putting barriers and accountability in place just means we can’t gamble it easily or secretly.

Keep posting and maybe I will see you in one of the groups here as well.

A very BIG well done JVR. You did the right thing. Whilst not gambling is a big deal for us, as you have found, it isn’t a big deal for non addicts. they are clearly good friends and as friends there are lots of other thigns you can do together.

Very few people know about my addiction so I think if I was in the same position I would have just said “I don’t gamble, I’d rather not go to a casino”, Again, if I’m with friends we would then do something else.

Again, well done, you deserve your mrecovery.

    Hi Craigmac.

So you want your life back? Great. Now what are you prepared to do to get it? How about accountability and your wife holding the money in an account you don’t have access to? A couple of posts back I rad your “account ius currentlky closed”? How about asking them to exclude you? Then it can’t be re-opened. How about a blocker for your devices that your wife sets any passwords for? If u you can get around blockers then get a “brick” for a phonew with limited internetr access.

You can stop gambling, but words, promises, even intentions don’t usually work. Keep posting and let us know what positive actions you are taking. Because the actions that will help you stop gambling are the same actions that can help rebuild trust etc with your family.

    Hi Ax,

Well done on getting back here.

As you have found, we are never cured.

If we need help to stop gambling then it is best to keep using support to help us stay stopped. You hadn’t posted since April, have you been using other support?

If you use professional support great. But professional support tends to run it’s course and come to an end. That’s when some form of continued support is important.

You will stop again, this time keep posting.

Hi Softandrezed, well done on looking for help.

If you read the other stories here you wil read a lot that you will relate to, You will also see the success stories and the sorts of thign s that ahve helped others stop gambling. Barriers help, particularly in the early days. Thgings like getting excluded from the places/sites where you usally gamble. Things like gettign a blocker for your devices which will make you less able t gamble online. It soun ds like your family know about your problem? Then I expect there will be someone who can help you with some of the financial barriers you will read about. Things like accountability and limitinh access to funds with which to gamble.

Most importantly use support, there is a lot of it about these days. If you can connect to one of the groups here I can talk you through some of the options you have in your area.

Keep posting and let us know the positive steps that you are taking.

Hi nkalei and welcome. Firstly my apologies, it shouldn’t have taken this long to welcome you to the forum.

I am sorry to hear about your father – in – law.

With regards your gambling you can stop I promise you. Read the other stories here – you will read a lot that you will relate to. You will also see the success stories and the sorts of thigns that will help you stop gambling.

When it cxomes to support you now have this forum. We also have live groups and even a 1 – 1 Helpline. Check this link as well, I don’t know your geography but there do seem to be GA meetigns in pretty much every State in USA.

    https://www.gamblersanonymous.org/ga/locations

They also have a link for zoom meetings etc. Support has never been as accessible and it is important to use it. To put it bluntly, if we could do it on our own then none of us would be here in the first place.

Keep posting and let us know the positive steps ypou are taking. Hopefully i will see you in a group here soon as well

The things that will help you stop gambling, and help rebuild trust with your husband arent any words, promises or even intentions. It is actions that count.

Where do you usually gamble? If it is online then you can exclude yourself from the sites you use. There are blockers you can instal which will stop you signing up at others. You lose your paycheck as soon as you get paid? Then I am sire your husband will be delighted to help and have it paid into his account. We both know that no money = no gambling so we can use that in recovery.
