Because of the overlap in time, the New Month will not be starting at the same time for every one. Neither will the New Year or the New Day.
The one thing we all have in common, is that we are letting go of the day,the month and the year that has passed and we are moving on in time. It can be scary to look back and realise we will never be given back that time !
Life is short, and getting shorter all the time.
For me as a Cg, my biggest regret is the loss of time. Yes, we also lost friends, money, jobs, health etc etc but some of these things can and will be restored if we use the TIME we have left to redeem our losses.
As I ring out the old year and welcome the new, my thoughts are fixed on TIME. The year that I say goodbye to, will never return.
One day at a time. Next time. Waste of time. Monthly pacts .One month gamble free. One year gone . New Year’s Resolutions. Promises. Hopes for the future. Past regrets. Too late. Too soon….everything relates to time .What does is all mean? Why do we need to pledge ourselves to days, weeks, months? Why do we need to look back or forward when all we have is NOW.
Now is the time to choose. Now is the time to be grateful for the support, fellowship, laughs, tears, hopes suffering and joy. Gratitude for the bad things as well as the good because it is through our sorrows as well as our joys that we grow and heal and learn to reach out to others.
As we begin this year, this month, this day, let’s resolve to focus on NOW. If a Pact helps us to do that that’s wonderful! If it hinders us that’s fine too! We can unite in our differences as well as in or similarities.
I heard a sermon on Christmas Day which spoke about the meaning of Christmas. The preacher spoke about Salvation rescuing us from death to life. In summary, he pointed out that people who do not realise they are in trouble will ever ask for help because they think they don’t need to be saved. The same can be said for CGs. If we do not accept that we are helpless over our problem, surrender, and "lay down our arms", we will never find redemption because by denial of our addiction, we are saying we don’t need to be saved.
Every CG that I have met here, admits that he/she has been beaten by our addiction. We all know weneed help. We all recognise our own powerlessness over gambling, so instead of making resolutions for 2012, why not examine the tools we have been given and ask ourselves how we intend to use them to move forward instead of allowing ourselves to become fixated in the past.
Wishing every body here a New Year that bings FREEDOM , HOPE and GRATITUDE!
May 2012 be a G-free year for all!

Completely agree with you there,
Regardless of anyones situation, weather your £1000 or £10,000 in debt (im somewhere in between), its all about now and the future.
As far as I can see it we have been gifted with a new year, which is a massive difference to a new day or week.
good luck everyone -

I’m in. This year is about starting fresh and moving on. Putting away those memories of failure and loss. Those bad decisions are in the past and we all now have the opportunity to start how we mean to go on. Not going to be easy, but nothing worth while ever is. I hope everyone can give it their best and make the changes needed to make 2012 a year of happiness and not regret.
Thanks for the encouraging words Vera.
I have not gambled today, I will not gamble tomorrow and I plan to never gamble again.Tomorrows another day. Just hope I don’t gamble it away… -

Happy New Year Vera + to everyone else. A new year should be a fresh start for us all, a gamble free start. Our gambling past should stay in the past and remain there without a seconds thought. 2012 should be the year we all should give up this HEART BREAKING HABIT, have given it enough of my time and money. That I will hope my cravings will stop. Have to remain positive and strong and not weaken again to this disease. Good luck to everyone and Vera you are such an inspiration to us all.– 01/01/2012 09:01:32: post edited by blueelvis888.

happy new year everybody in the pact here. i am not sure about others but for me new year is just another day at the moment.. a landmark for some but for me it is another day gamble free.. i want 2012 to be better than 2011 and it is not just by my wanting it to be better but i want me to be a better person this year. agreed with vera, that time is one thing which will never come back.. i have always thought whenever i relapsed that my problem is the finanical loss and the mental torture which comes with it.. i always recovered my losses and i am hopeful that i will recover this time as well but i never tried to change myself.. my thinking.. my thoughts.. and just kept on chasing money..
this year with this pact .. i promise that i will try to change myself this month.. i will try to remain gamble free but at the other hand.. i will try to improve as a human being and as a person.. first few months are going to be challanging, particularly january.. when i have to file my tax return.. if i remain gamble free.. one by one problems will be sorted.. thanks vera for your support in december and i am glad that i did not gamble in december..tomorrow will be better than yesterday. -

Happy New Year to everyone! Not bragging…but I am so happy and thankful to have made it through December without gambling. That’s a major milestone and hurdle for me. Now I’m choosing to continue that way of life and not gamble in January. I want everyday to feel like an accomplishment and make the most of each day.
