Today i leave GM and i’m going to be using this forum to get things off my chest but to also give any advice and support to people that are waiting to come into GM or are thinking of doing so.
I’m planning on starting a new chapter in my life by traveling to Australia to clear my head and hopefully get a new perspective of life outside of gambling.
I used to work in the gambling industry but due to my problem it was discussed that it was best i didn’t go back to my job after treatment as the long term affects would not benefit me.
I look forward to getting involved in the community here and bettering my life 🙂 -

Hi Tom,
Thanks for posting. I am waiting to get on the course for myself. I would lobe to hear your thoughts.
Well done, it sounds as if the course worked for you, and that you are moving on. Good luck with everything.
best

Hi Tom,
I am also on the waiting list for residential treatment. Did you do the full 12 weeks and how different do you feel now compared to the day you first went in?
Be great to get an insight from your perspective.
I wish you all the best in your recovery, take care,

Hi Mav,
I completed the course but it wasn’t a walk in the park I had a few ups and downs but I feel I have come out a better man.
When on the course it’s very important to open up about with personal life as this will help you get to the core of your problem.
I would advice when you get in GM you will always be given support and when you feel vulnerable go and speak to the staff who will do their upmost to help you.
The fact you have to do budget sheets to show what you are going to spend your money on really taught me the value of money which I don’t think I had in the past .
I hope to hear that you are accepted into GM soon and sort yourself out 🙂

Hi Charls,
Yes I completed the course and I feel a lot more confident person.
During the course you have to come out with stuff about your past that you don’t want to talk about and you may think it’s not relevant to your recover but it really is and it will help you overcome this addiction.
Really make the most of your time in GM and don’t be afraid people will judge you on your gambling life and some of the regrettable things you have done in the past as everyone is in the same boat and more than likely has done something similar.
My gambling has affected my relationship with my family so I’m going to try and build up the trust with them as I have stolen from them in the past which I’m very ashamed of.
Fingers crossed you get into GM soon and get yourself sorted out 🙂

Many thanks for your feedback Tom, it’s very helpful.
I think most of us will have bridges to build when the dust settles and the time is right.
Interesting point about opening up as there’s usually a combination of factors as to why we act the way we do. Sometimes we may not even realise it’s related, so should be enlightening. It sounds as if the treatment will be quite cleansing amongst other things. It will be good practice opening up on this site as I’ve not really analysed the situation in detail before.
Keep posting Tom, I look forward to following your progress and the very best of luck in your recovery.
