Good afternoon to all
I have recently informed my family of my problem gambling. They are so supportive but I have already pushed my wife away, I fully intend on regaining her trust.
Please could anybody share coping strategies or a change to their lifestyle that helped with gambling.
I will honestly listen to all ideas as I do not want my previous life – I want to move on and turn my back on this crippling addiction.
Thanks all
Hi Dan,
Welcome to the forum and well done on taking positive steps addressing your problem gambling by informing your family and posting on here.
For changing your lifestyle, one of the most useful initial actions I found helpful when I first came here were adding as many barriers as possible to make it difficult to gamble such as –
Permanently closing all online betting accounts. Getting banned from live betting. Removing or reducing your access to funds, this could be done by having someone you trust manage your funds, or if you are keeping access to your funds, add accountability so that someone else has visibility of where your money is being spent.
I also found the new members meeting very useful, these as Dunc mentioned are held on a Monday and Thursday, and you can get some great advice and tips.
Hi both.
Thank you so much for your advice.
I will be taking part in the advice groups.
I am now 11 days free of not gambling but I know its a long road!
Look forward to speaking to more people and getting advice going forward.
Hi Dan,
Glad to hear you are on 11 days with no gambling, nice work. Also glad to hear that you will be taking part in the advice groups, I hope and expect you will find then very useful.
