Hello everyone.
I have been a compulsive gambler in the states for 2 decades, almost ruining my marriage, losing 100’s of thousands from sports betting, online casinos. Had an incredible run the past 18 months which is unheard of for almost a daily junkie, only to blow most of it yesterday. Playing online blackjack destroyed me again, then I put a huge bet on the Astros in the worlds series. Of course they didnt come close to winning even with their best pitcher. So a monstrous hole once again. I hate myself and cannot understand why I do not learn my lesson and quit. I recouped a significant amount of my career losses in the past year and a half, only to lose in 1 single day half of that. November 1, new month hopefully the end of my 20 year roller coaster miserable gambling binges. I digust myself and love my family so much. They dont deserve a person like me in their lives. I will come back here every week to check in hopefully a long stay and away from the gambling. -

Hi hopeisgone .
Firstly hope isn’t gone – you have admitted you have a problem and you want to do something about it – u can stop right now today while u still have some money left
You said you will come here every week – I have stopped gambling for five weeks and I still find I need to come here several times a day . If gambling has become a daily habit it is likely you will need daily support .
If you can honestly draw a line under the money and not look back – accept that it is gone – you can become gamble free.
You will get lots of advice on here and there are groups on tonight where u can chat to others – there is also a one to one chat where you can speak to someone who understandsThrow as much effort at stopping gambling as you did at gambling and I guarantee you will stop and have a great life .
Well done on starting a thread . -

Welcome to the forum!
I did it has given you lots of great advice! And if you take the time to look around the forum at other’s stories, talk to the advisors on the help desk, and try some group chats you will find more advice and tools to help you kick this addiction to the curb.
It may not mean anything but you talk about career losses like your gambling was an actual job. Perhaps start thinking of it in terms of an addiction not a career.
I’m not an online or sports gambler so I’m not as familiar with some of the tech talk. But I understand you can get software that blocks gambling sites on your computer and phone.
What about tying up that money that you have there to burn in one day?
It would be great to see a post from you saying your back before the week.
Take care,
Laura
