It all started bout 6 years ago as a little bit of fun for us to get out of the house for a few hours.
over the years we have had our wins and our loses but lately its all we seem to do.
its like we are in a terrible cycle. we used to play the slot machines.
we are lucky we have gotten into any so called debt because of it but we are broke.
its really effecting our relationship and we are always rowing over money.
we really want to give up to actually have money and look foward to a future together.
can anyone help or have any advice for us

Hello and thanks for starting a thread in the Gambling Therapy forums
Here at Gambling Therapy we pride ourselves on being a caring and diverse online community who can help and support you with the difficulties you’re currently facing. We understand that this might be a tough time for you, particularly if you’re new to recovery, so come here as often as you need to and participate in the forums, access online groups and connect to the live advice helpline if you need one to one support. We’re in this together!
Here on the forum you can share your experiences in a safe, supportive and accepting environment. The beauty of writing it all down is that you can take your time and you will be creating a record of your progress that you can look back on if it ever feels like you’re not moving forward. So, share as much or as little as you like but do try to stick to keeping just one thread in this forum so people know where to find you if they want to be updated on your progress or share something with you.
As well as the forums New Members are invited to join Charles in the New Members Practical Advice Group On Mondays at 21:00 (UK) and Thursday at 19:00(UK)
And on that note….
I’m going to hand you over to our community because I’m sure they will have some words of wisdom for you 🙂
Take care
The Gambling Therapy Team

PS: Let me just remind you to take a look at our privacy policy and terms and conditions so you know how it all works!

You can give up gambling if you commit yourselves to it. This site will show you how. There are 4 things that you need to consider.
1) banning yourself from the place where you gamble and anywhere else that you might be tempted to go to.
2) Not carrying any more money than you need on a day to day basis and trying to keep access to finance «difficult.»
3) Getting good support for yourselves, by letting others know you have a problem and are wanting to stop. This could be trusted family and friends and / or a self-help group such as Gamblers’ Anonymous.
4) Finding something else (non gambling) which you can do with your time. You said it started as a way of getting out of the house. What else would do that for you? I tried quizzing, dancing, courses, walking, comedy etc. It could be some kind of sport, fishing?
The big thing is the commitment needed as this is not an easy addiction to beat. Most people need support and help to do so — come back and post some more, so that we might be able to give more pointed advice. I wish you well.

Hi Memelee,
Steev has already given you some great advice, there are many positive steps that you can take and a lot of support available to you, here and elsewhere.
The thing that I would add is that you kep saying «we» and «us»? If «memelee» is in fact two of you then I recommend getting your own, individual user names.
Speaking to both of you I would say that IF your partner gambles/decides they don’t need support then YOU will still be a compulsive gambler and need to be doing this for YOU.
