      Hello all,

I’m Heinz ,and i’m 20years old. I’m studying in Holland. I’m also a gambling addict for many years now. Vurnerability for (any) addiction also runs in the family.
I’ve started playing poker at the age of 16 every friday with our friend group. While not everyone is addicted, i’m the most addicted of all of them. Since two years we are not playing every friday poker, i also had some times i quited several times for some period. But after a while, I always start again, and i’ll not stop till the last penny. Sure, I also win quite often big, if made out of 1,- 400 once, but i also lost it 1hour later.

I think my life-time loss is between 15.000-20.000dollar.
Which of around 6.000 was a estate of my passed away grandmother

I don’t got a real goal with winning, neither do i think I am going to make some or all of the money back. I already know i’m going to lose and i’m still doing it.

Because of that i’ve set depositing limits (with pokerstars e.g.). Which work, but it makes me even more nauseous if I can’t gamble while I HAVE cash. I’m always exactly aware of which dates I receive cash and countdown.

I’m not sure how this forum is going to help me, but I’ve to try. I already fucked alot small things up, but if there isnt going to change something right now, ill be an lonely unhappy broke ass lad for life.

Thanks for reading and please share your experiences if you can relate or have any advice.

Hello and thanks for starting a thread in the Gambling Therapy forums

Here at Gambling Therapy we pride ourselves on being a caring and diverse online community who can help and support you with the difficulties you’re currently facing. We understand that this might be a tough time for you, particularly if you’re new to recovery, so come here as often as you need to and participate in the forums, access online groups and connect to the live advice helpline if you need one to one support. We’re in this together!

Here on the forum you can share your experiences in a safe, supportive and accepting environment. The beauty of writing it all down is that you can take your time and you will be creating a record of your progress that you can look back on if it ever feels like you’re not moving forward. So, share as much or as little as you like but do try to stick to keeping just one thread in this forum so people know where to find you if they want to be updated on your progress or share something with you.

As well as the forums New Members are invited to join Charles in the New Members Practical Advice Group On Mondays at 21:00 (UK) and Thursday at 19:00(UK)

      And on that note….

I’m going to hand you over to our community because I’m sure they will have some words of wisdom for you 🙂

      Take care

      The Gambling Therapy Team

PS: Let me just remind you to take a look at our privacy policy and terms and conditions so you know how it all works!

Hi Heinz and welcome to the site. Well done on looking for help.

Read the other stories here, you will see a lot of things that you will relate to. You will aslo read the success stories – what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation?

As you have found, setting limits doesn’t really help and just keeps the addiction ticking over. Rather than have those limts why not ask them to ban you from the site? Better still have a blocker on yoru PC.

Keep this thread running so that you can track your progress in recovery. Let us know the positive steps you are going to be taking.

Good job on seeking help Heinz! Read the thing that Charles and Vera have to say. They seem to offer good and sound advise. You’re so young still and have a great life ahead of you if you quit NOW. Am excited to see your gamble free days grow as mine do too. Today is a new day and all we have to do is not gamble today. 🙂
