Hi, I’m very new to this site and am writing this to see if anyone’s situation is similar to mine and any tips I may find useful. I have two young children (3yrs and 1 yr) since being off on maternity leave I have played online bingo and sports betting. This has esculated into a problem and has continued now I have returned to work. I can go a few days with not gambling without urges, then when I do gamble, I can’t stop until all my money is gone. I have been struggling a bit with my mood, but the gambling has made it worse. I have blocked usage on most sites, but am still finding ways to bet. I know this needs to stop and I want it to stop. I find I have my lack if money situation on my mind all the time.

Thanks for reading and I look forward to hearing your replies

Hello BD and thanks for starting a thread in the Gambling Therapy forums

Here at Gambling Therapy we pride ourselves on being a caring and diverse online community who can help and support you with the difficulties you’re currently facing. We understand that this might be a tough time for you, particularly if you’re new to recovery, so come here as often as you need to and participate in the forums, access online groups and connect to the live advice helpline if you need one to one support. We’re in this together!

Here on the forum you can share your experiences in a safe, supportive and accepting environment. The beauty of writing it all down is that you can take your time and you will be creating a record of your progress that you can look back on if it ever feels like you’re not moving forward. So, share as much or as little as you like but do try to stick to keeping just one thread in this forum so people know where to find you if they want to be updated on your progress or share something with you.

      And on that note….

I’m going to hand you over to our community because I’m sure they will have some words of wisdom for you 🙂

      Take care

      The Gambling Therapy Team

Hi Beautiful day.. Most people on here can identify with you.. Somewhere along the way the gambling we did for fun has become a real problem for us. We can no longer spend a few pounds and win or lose.. We have become compulsive gamblers which means we lose control when we gamble.. Well done for coming on here and starting a thread . Recognising you have a problem is the first step to recovery. Banning from sites it good but putting a gambling block in your computer means you cannot access any site.,eg gamlock… Keep coming on here, write your diary and get your barriers in place! You will overcome this and you will find that money will become less of a worry ..also the help line is really good as are the support groups.. You will recover as so many on Here have!

Welcome to the GT community! With a one and three year old, as well as working outside your home, I can see why you would want to escape for a while. Gambling for those of us that become addicted goes from an escape, to a hellish existence very quickly. As well as barriers to access cash to gamble, it would be good for you to have some “you” time that doesn’t involve gambling. The money you spend gambling could be used to hire someone to care for your children so that you can get out a bit on your own or with a friend. This addiction is progressive and unless arrested, will create more and more problems in your relationships, as well as create debt. Please don’t wait to get help as many of us gambled for many years, before we hit our bottom. Many of us considered suicide as a way of quitting gambling and ending our emotional pain. You have two little children that need their Mom present physically and emotionally as they grow up. We can’t be there emotionally if gambling thoughts are on our mind constantly. There are blockers that you can put on your computer so that you can’t gamble online. The staff here could advise you which ones are the best. Carole
