Hi everyone, have made the decision that i need to quit gambling and felt i could do with sharing my story on here, hopefully it helps. I have prob be gambling for about 6 years. i am 33 so only started later in life. When i look back i began gambling when i stopped smoking. I either have an addivtive personality or it was something to do with the extra cash. In the beginning it was the odd bet here and there, working up to losing prob about £500 a month. which was almost half my wages. I managed to quit for a year as i had a young son and knew i had to stop. i now have a second son and just before xmas i started again. SInce then i have lost around 12k. i only earn about 25k. I have taken out a loan to pay off cards and overdrafts twice. I am devastated. it will be costing me all my spare cash over the next 3 years just to pay off this debt. Currently i am living with my parents again for the past 4 weeks. I don’t have any money to pay child maintenance for my kids ans my ex is giving me grief. Nobody knows the extent to which i have gotten into it. MY face is also covered in bruises as i slap and punch myself in the face when it doesn’t go my way. Last week i done a bet which would pay 4200. i cashed out for 200 as it didn’t look likely it would win and it won. I can’t seem to get it out of my head. I can’t try and reconcile with my partner as it is cheaper to live with my parents and thus pay off the debt quicker. So tomorrow is day 1

Great to hear that Peter! And there are so much better ways too spend your money. And that nervous tension, that awful feeling while you’re waiting for the outcome of the match… Well, you can miss that, for sure!
Have a good evening man 🙂 -

Hi Peter, well done on looking for help and for excluding from the sites you have excluded from so far. Excluded from “….most sites i know….” makes it sound like you have left some loopholes open though. Exclude from the rest and, as others have suggested, I would recommend getting a blocker.
I remember when I first stopped I wouldn’t switch on or look at matches until after kick off, at least that way I avoided all the pre match odds etc.
I used to think I was a footy fan…. though often I wouldn’t want my team to win unless it as a certain player who scored, I might not want my team to score more than x number of goals, I often wanted my team to concede a goal! Occasionally even lose!! Was I a fan? I don’t think so really, I am now though.
Be honest with yourself, if watching the matches right now makes thigns too hard for you then don’t watch, plan your time with other things.
Keep posting and I hope you enjoy the football as a fan, not as someone who likes to gamble on a match.
