For someone who is reasonably well educated and I consider myself to be reasonably intelligent, why do I never learn! You wouldn’t believe I have been a Mortgage Advisor and am the ‘go to’ person in my family for any advice on money! Yet I never learn and seem to always think I can beat the bookie. Research gambling techniques, look for the best tipsters and believe in strategies I find on the internet!
I have self excluded myself from nearly every bookmaker on the internet. I was quite bad at sports betting but recently tried out a few techniques on Blackjack at the casino and at the betting terminals in bookies. Those things ruin lives!!!
How do I stop myself. I looked for help last Thursday and swore I would make a change but this morning lost my last £80 and have not paid my rent or car hire purchase!
I will never do it but sometimes think I might as well end my life as I cannot see myself stopping!!!
Then on the other hand I say tomorrow will be the start!

Hi im sorry you are in a bad place with your addiction but you have made a very positive step coming here! Lots of help great advise and support to be had. Those terminals in the bookies are an utter curse. I have worked with different software providers and can assure you even though they state they are “random” they use a very specific RNG which is always bias towards the operator. Nothing you can do no strategy no system can overcome this as it is hardwired into each server that runs these monstrosities!
A person may win on the very short term but will ALWAYS loose in the slightly longer term. I know myself as an addict I dont take such things into account when I have been in a gambling frenzy . But when I gave myself time to stop / pause I can see the reality of what this form of gambling is. Try stop for 1 day. When the urge comes do something else. Anything. And then you may be surprised how that moment passes and before your know 1 day turns into 2 …
Keep posting and let us know how you get on! JN.

Thanks for all your comments.
These days are the easy ones. I don’t really have any money left. I did however borrow £30 off my mum to pay into my bank to cover a direct debit. I did have to walk past two bookies to get to the bank. There wasn’t really any urge to go in as such as I do have good days. The real test is every Monday when my lodger pays me his board and at the end of the month when I get my salary. Especially now as I am short on my rent so think that I can win the money I need to pay it.
Time will tell but I will definitely keep coming back here to keep everyone updated as I think it will be an immense help.
On a separate note, I spoke to a friend last week who I rarely see but speak to now and again on Facebook. I remember at the beginning of the year he put a status on Facebook for all to see that he was addicted to gambling. He says he hasn’t gambled since and suggested I tell family and friends. Unfortunately, it isn’t something that I feel I can do yet, but I am pleased for him and he has offered me his support.
Thanks all 🙂
Tony
