      Hello all,

      New on here.

So I’ve been playing the online slots for just under 3 years now.

      I’ve lost a total of £3000.

Of course there are ups but the downs outweigh them.

      I gamble maybe 3 times a month , not a lot I know.

I’ve been trying to stop for 6 months now but just when I think I’m getting somewhere I buckle and give in to give it “one more go”

Then after I’ve lost my money i go back to feeling ashamed of myself.

Just wanted to share my story.

Hello jonnya and thanks for starting a thread in the Gambling Therapy forums

So, share as much or as little as you like but do try to stick to keeping just one thread in this forum so people know where to find you if they want to be updated on your progress or share something with you.

      Hi Jonnya,

Well done on looking for help.

I hope you are reading the other stories here, you will see a lot that you will relate to. You will also read the success stories, what are they doing that you could apply to your own situation?

There is a lot of support available in the UK, here and elsewhere. Gamcare, Gamblers Anonymous, counselling and more.

You feel that you are getting somewhere and then buckle? Well the next time you reach that point you won’t be alone; you can be posting regularly here and/or using other support. You can be banned from your usual gambling sites, have a blocker on your PC/phone. You can have things in place so that you don’t have unaccountable access to funds with which to gamble.

You can stop gambling, keep posting and let us know the positive steps that you are going to start taking.

Hello and thank you for your reply.

I’ve read quite a few and picked up helpful tips etc to help me on my way.

I’m positive i can overcome this and move on with my life.

I’ve made a financial plan, got posters around my room with sentences re-iterating what will happen if i do gamble again and how it will make me feel, i keep a diary to write down my thoughts about it, although i do not want my diary to be taken up by it.

This is only day 2 i know but i feel good now and want this feeling to continue…..

Thanks so much for your response.

It sounds like you have got the right idea, get it out your system and move on because it isn’t funny if it gets to the dizzy heights it did me and some other fellow gamblers on here. Are you from the UK? if so there are many things you can do to stop you from gambling if you get the urge, self-exclusion being one of them. If you’re an internet casino person self-exclude from the sites where you play and others when you can, get Gam Block on your computer, give your cash to a trusted friend or relative and resist those urges. Keep trying and it can be done, I hope.

Well so far so good, it’s only been 6 days now but i feel a lot better for it even though it’s only a short time.. i’m setting myself little goals…1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month etc….i’m proud that i will make it to 1 week and aim for it to continue. yes i am from the UK but currently live in Spain. I’ve already taken that step to self exclude myself from many sites. I really appreciate your reply as it helps a great deal to express myself to someone….i also write in my diary daily, describing my feelings, how i would feel again if i did gamble again…etc…every little helps.
