Hi everyone, firstly to say i think the community here is truly inspiring, i’ve been gambling for at least 10 years in almost secret, never spoken to anyone about it and am really happy to have found this place.
Honestly im not 100% sure still why i gamble but i do know that since xmas i have amassed 18k in debts from slots and online casino gambling. Much like many of the stories i’ve read on here i have won and continued to gamble away after that next win. Its completely taken over my life and i find myself spending hours and hours just clicking buttons and waiting for features.
I have tried to do this alone before and have failed so i thought id share this with similar people in the hope that over the next year i can help myself acheive a) non gambler status and b) clearing of my debts.
I have a plan that involves paying 9.4% of my debts of each month starting from july 1st, i cant do this in june as im paying my overdraft off too. I suppose i just want to make sure i am publically making a promise to myself to do this and stick to it.
Sat outside of starbucks typing this when i should be working, fighting back tears of shame, sadness and misery at where ive got myself too probably tells everyone how bad it has got, i want my life back, i will no this and will keep everyone updated with my progress.

Hello and thanks for starting a thread in the Gambling Therapy forums
Here at Gambling Therapy we pride ourselves on being a caring and diverse online community who can help and support you with the difficulties you’re currently facing. We understand that this might be a tough time for you, particularly if you’re new to recovery, so come here as often as you need to and participate in the forums, access online groups and connect to the live advice helpline if you need one to one support. We’re in this together!
Here on the forum you can share your experiences in a safe, supportive and accepting environment. The beauty of writing it all down is that you can take your time and you will be creating a record of your progress that you can look back on if it ever feels like you’re not moving forward. So, share as much or as little as you like but do try to stick to keeping just one thread in this forum so people know where to find you if they want to be updated on your progress or share something with you.
And on that note….
I’m going to hand you over to our community because I’m sure they will have some words of wisdom for you 🙂
Take care
The Gambling Therapy Team
PS: Let me just remind you to take a look at our
privacy policy and terms and conditions so you know how it all works!

Welcome! Yes, it can be very helpful to share your plans as this seems to help us to be more responsible and committed. A wise decision.
It sounds as if you are able to think ahead in a logical and organized way and I wish you well in carrying out your aims. I sincerely hope you do not experience serious set-backs or disillusionment along the way, but IF you ever feel things are not progressing as you had hoped and planned, please do not give up! Stay in touch with people here and any other help you find useful and, if things get rough, just pick yourself up and start again.
Support and your own determination will take you forward and open up a new way of living, I’m sure.
All good wishes,
Monique
