I have been a CG for 30 years & now admitting to defeat & trying to retire this compulsion for the rest of my life. This life eventually puts you into a position of making a very bad decision to selfishly to end things because you have no way out….There was no hope in my mind to figure this thing out & have a happier life so when my surgeon advised me that she would not do surgery on me unless she knew for sure that I hadn’t had aspirin in 14 days prior. (why because the aspirin would cause aneurism because of where on my cervical she was going). I decided to take aspirin & schedule on her last surgery day of the year 12/30. As luck or fate has it, they weren’t able to get me in & asked to reschedule. That scheduling conflict saved my life & allowed me to regain my mental balance. The point is that CG behavior can drive us to insanity & if given a moment of clarity which I received from HP, fate or happenstance, its allowed me to fight for my sobriety again which we all know isn’t easy (ODAAT). I hope to never be that low again in my life & will remember those impulsive thoughts to action as a reminder of what gambling can do. I have made my conscious decision to retire from CG & have been clean since 12/30/14. I am working on being a better person to my wife & family which will help me feel better about who I am in my new world.

Hello Wishbone and thanks for starting a thread in the Gambling Therapy forums

Here at Gambling Therapy we pride ourselves on being a caring and diverse online community who can help and support you with the difficulties you’re currently facing. We understand that this might be a tough time for you, particularly if you’re new to recovery, so come here as often as you need to and participate in the forums, access online groups and connect to the live advice helpline if you need one to one support. We’re in this together!

Here on the forum you can share your experiences in a safe, supportive and accepting environment. The beauty of writing it all down is that you can take your time and you will be creating a record of your progress that you can look back on if it ever feels like you’re not moving forward. So, share as much or as little as you like but do try to stick to keeping just one thread in this forum so people know where to find you if they want to be updated on your progress or share something with you.

      And on that note….

I’m going to hand you over to our community because I’m sure they will have some words of wisdom for you 🙂

      Take care

      The Gambling Therapy Team

PS: Let me just remind you to take a look at our

      Hi Wishbone
I couldn’t agree more that it would have been a terrible mistake and a dreadful loss. You are a unique and important person and we are glad to welcome you to this forum.
I am mostly to be found in the Friends and Family section but I noticed your first post and wanted just to say hi, give you our official welcome and also offer a personal welcome.
I pop over often and read the posts in My Journal and I look forward to hearing your progress.
Well done on writing your first post – the first one is always the hardest.

Hi Wishbone, we are so alike .. I have a severe allergy and once it twice I though if I “accidentally” ate a bit of the wrong thing what a terrible tragedy for my family without the added problems if suicide .
I know though that life always gets better .. There are always good times ahead . So I’m glad ur appointment was cancelled

Hello Wishbone. Kudos on being clean for over 3 weeks and waiting to post before you had a couple of weeks behind you. You’re more likely to be on the right track now than you would have been if you came here in despair the day you gambled and announced you’re done gambling (like I and many others have done in the past only to soon fail bitterly).

As for your suicide plans, I don’t feel competent to comment, but they do say that people who just barely avoided accident or had near death experience get a completely new perspective on life. So, here’s to your new gamble free start and life.
