firstly I wasnt sure how to create my own thread so if this could be moved I would be grateful and I am going to start a journal.
Hi Guys
New to the forum but hopefully this is a big step in me stopping gambling . I have been addicted to gambling since the age of around 20 and am now 28. Even now I would basically gamble every penny I earn and it is getting very depressing. I feel one day I may end up homeless through it or worse if I don’t get it under control now.
What makes my problems different is that I am a succesful professional poker player. I have been playing for 3 years and initially this brought my sports betting addiction under control but now I think the problem is worse than ever.
I have been sponsored for 2 years to play poker and in that time have earnt myself around £60000 after my sponsor takes his commision. I have no intention of stopping playing poker as it is my sole source of income and earn alot more than my job which I got made redundant in the summer.
My issue is only really sports betting. I don’t really get tempted with casino’s and spent a month in vegas playing poker and only twice ventured on the roullette for relatively fun small stakes and twice to the sportsbook. I feel this proves I am in control except for internet and phone betting which is the main cause of my problem.
Please could you offer me any advise , if I contacted all my sports betting websites and ask them to block them will they permanantly do this or just temporarily block them. Last month I won £4000 through poker and at the moment I am scared of it going into my bank account as I know I will just start wasting it on sports betting.
Any help and advise would be appreciated.
I am from the UK by the way.
