Hi my name is Robert and I am a 24 year old student who is about to graduate in a few weeks. It took me almost 6 years to get the degree because I also work full time, which I have nothing to show for it. I would say that I started gambling around 16 and have consistently gambled since. To give you a look into my situation I make around $500 dollars a week since the time was 16. I work at a local restaurant where I make very good money when considering my situation. I lived above the bar from 18 until around six months ago. The only bill I had was for the rent which was $240 a month, which included everything, included cable. My mom takes care of all my other bills including car insurance and cell phone. Looking at this I should have had plenty of money saved throughout the years that I was living there. I literally gambling all the extra money that I had away, which I would say was at least a couple hundred every week and I estimate around 30,000 total. This is absolutely insane for me to take into perspective and it makes me so upset at the thought. Up until six months ago I could get bye blowing all of my cash because I really had nothing to spend it on, except actually doing things other than gambling. I then moved out of my place and moved into an apartment with my girlfriend and my bills went up to around $700 dollars a month. I didn’t have any money saved going into this and it still should not be a problem with what I was making. My mom has started to have financial problems too and it makes me feel so bad because she has taken care of me this entire time when I was just blowing money. I have given her what I could and started paying all my other bills which obviously I need to do and I feel so bad that I have not been doing it since the beginning. The problem is that I have not slowed down my gambling at all. I took at a credit card when we moved up into the new place and I have already maxed it out with a $4000 dollar limit. Currently my bank account is negative $500 and I don’t have the money for bills which is due in a week. The past months have really given me a wake up call and made me realized how bad the situation is and that I really need some help. Throughout this entire time I have been gambling I have always lost money and said that I will never go back. The next couple days I make some money and find myself right back at the tables. Even when I make a lot of money, which I just did last week I easily put it back. I went to the casino last week and won over a thousand and since then I lost that and the five hundred in my back account that I did not even have. I just can’t control myself and end up betting more and more. Not even looking at the money I have hurt so many people throughout this process. My mom is the one that I feel so bad about and I am determined to make it up to her. I am just about to graduate and the sad part is that I know that even if I get a better job that just means that it will be more money that I can gamble with. This is something that I need to change and I really need some help doing it.
