Hi, I’m 27 years old and a compulsive gambler. It started when j was 17 when a friend said he had a bookie who could take sports bets. I had never done it and thought it would be fun. I started with $20 bets that turned to $50 then to $100 then thousands. There were times I won so much money I was ecstatic but I’m the end you always lose. I would lose money and be depressed and say that gambling got me in the mess and it would get me out. Well I’d win and pay debts off then out myself in debt all over again. Bookies, online gambling and vegas are a normal for me. I hate my life. I live at home with my mom and little brother and on multiple occasions my mom bailed me out. I estimate she’s paid 9ober 200k to stop me. Last time I told her it was debt from a failed business and I think she knew it was gambling but she didn’t want me to suffer. Instead of stopping after she recently paid it all off I put myself back in double the debt. I now owe upwards of 60k on credit cards. I’ve never missed a payment and had excellent credit but I’m jobless and don’t know what I’ll do and contemplated letting my credit go. I am more depressed than I’ve ever been and want to stop and don’t know how to take away this disease that’s ruined my life. I see friends my age with houses and cars and I have nothing. There were times I thought I was better off dead. Is there really any hope? What steps can I even take to stop this?

Hi Milehigh and welcome to the site. Yes there is hope, you can stop gambling. You no longer have to do it on your own – you have support here and elsewhere. If you go to the My Journal Forum you will see a lot of stories similar to your own, you will alos see the sort of things that have helped others stop gambling. If you start your own thread there )copy and paste this one) you will get a lot of feeback and support. it is a busier Forum. This Topic Group Forum is for set Topics that are discussed in some of the groups here.

Hopefully I will also see you in one of the groups here as well.
