Hello everyone, I hope you are doing a lot better than me.

I’m in way over my head right now with a bookie and I just feel sick. Been very depressed right now and just want it to go away. The amount I owe is $10,000 and I have no way of getting g it. Last week I was down anther $10,000 but ended up borrowing the money with many promises of quitting. Now I’m stuck and just want this problem to be gone so I can move on and learn from this. I would greatly appreciate any advice from sports gamblers who have also been in this situation with a bookie. Its not a good feeling.

      Hi ashamed,
Welcome to GT! I’m sorry you have found yourself here, but at the same time I’m glad you are reaching out for help.
I have never been in your situation, being a slots girl myself, but I wanted to let you know that you have been heard. This site has been a godsend to me, the helpline is amazing and there are plenty of members here to support you.
Read other posts here, be open to advice.
It’s not easy, by any means but slowly your life can improve.
Well done on taking the step to change,
I look forward to hearing more from you.

Well done for coming here it is a huge step in helping yourself, you are one of the few in fact, many never reach out for help.
Although i don’t sports bet there are many here who do, what i have heard helps them too is banning from bookies, banning online from betting sites. Not looking at form guides etc, changing channels when the sports is on and finding a new hobby outside of the addiction.
There are many people who can help you and regardless of what type of gambling it is, its still the same addiction. Once we start we cant stop. If that is the case then there is a problem. Its great you are coming here to address it, stick around, there is help available. Talk to the advisors here and get into the groups here. You can click on support groups at the top of this page which will give you a timetable so long as you have set your location when you signed up and you are logged in, or click on helpline and it will show down the bottom of that page what groups are on right now. All the best and hope to see you stick around. Just for today don’t gamble.

      Hi AG and welcome.

As you found last week, finding a temporary solution to money issues isn’t what you need.

You will find that when you stop gambling the finances tend to take carfe of themselves, if they don’t then get proper financial advice.

What you need to do is address your gamblign addiction. Otherwise any financial solution is likely to be short lived.

Read the other stories here, you will read a lot of things you will relate to. You will also see the success stories, what are they doing that you can apply to your own situation?

Use the support taht is out there, keep posting here, get to a Gamblers Anonymnous Meeting. Likely you might meet someone there who has had problems with the same bookie.

Let us know what positive steps you are taking.

AG – you have made a huge step in the right direction. This sight offers a place you can share what you are feeling, get feedback from others and also post support on other compulsive gamblers threads.

Keep coming back here – you will get the support you need.

Stay strong – one day at a time!!

      Lee
