I’m a recently started gambler…. it all began when I bet online on The Grand National this year and discovered all the “fun” games available as I was playing in the Bingo section which I found. This lead to further forays onto different sites – always lured by “Free” cash to play with. I had a couple of decent wins from small stakes and a lot of fun – until my other half pointed out that I’d spent £800 in 3 weeks of money we couldn’t afford.
The shame and self loathing didn’t last long enough and I continued to dabble in many sites and then I would self exclude – as though I were doing the right thing – while opening other accounts on other sites. Many rows and tears ensued and we installed Betfilter – excellent!
After a week I realised my daughter’s laptop was an easy access – I played again. I’m now nearly £2000 down and have had to ask my daughter to password her laptop because I’m so pathetic!
My dad was a compulsive gambler and my abiding memory of him was dashing to and from the bookies each Saturday. I’ve not gambled before (other than slots on hols mildly if available) I guess because dad’s behaviour was an example of how not to do things. He died at 57 and my mum told how they once won the football pools substantially when I was little and dad gambled the lot away – they never owned their own place.
I will beat this and hope this website will help – I received a lot of support last night from a forum and am determined to get this nagging need out of my head.
Good luck to all concerned and massive thanks to my family for tolerating my selfish behaviour.
