Hey, this is my first time doing anything like this. My name is Somil Patel, I’m 17 years old and I think I have a crazy gambling problem. I started working a year ago around this time at my first every job (McDonalds)when I got my paycheck on 200$ I was excited because that was the most money I have ever seen. About 5 months into the job I’ve had a lot of money saved up around 1K after buying everything that I wanted which at the time was gaming system and technology, I decided to buy Bitcoins and started gambling with Bitcoins over the summer. From the 11 months I’ve had a job I managed to save up $220, that is all I have in my bank account. I’ve made a total of 6.7K in the whole year I worked and I’ve used 3K for personal items and food. The other 3K I’ve lost to gambling which is ridiculous. Just a couple days ago I decided to go all in with $250 I had and I managed to leave with 1.3K and I couldn’t control myself so I just kept going back in with $250 with the mindset I’m gonna win more and now I’m down to my last $200. It makes me embarrassed to think that I’ve been working for one year and I haven’t don’t anything good with my money, I haven’t made any emergency fund or anything. I’ve attempted to stop gambling but I always have the urge to go back and when all I’ve lost back. Currently I’m just really upset that I was stupid enough the get 1K and just keep going back to gamble and that I’ve been working for an year and I only have $200. What I plan on doing is just saving all my money now, please just give me advice on how to avoid going back. If I save all my money for the month of March I well be back at my goal of having 1.1K Saved from working and my tax return money. Once I have 1.1K saved I just plan on slowly saving more and more only problem I think I’m going to face gambling because the get rich thing, I’m not a patient person and I have a feeling I’m going to go back because I’m not happy of where I am currently at

      Hi dude,
I’m guessing ur from the US as your using $ I’m from the uk and in the same boat as you pal.
I started work at 18 now been working full time for over a year and realised I’ve saved jack shit! Not good when there’s expensive things in your life your expected to have saved up
for e.g deposit on a house!

I’m actually on 20k as of next month so time to change! I’ve also gambled sizeable amounts of my paychecks recently! Not to mention January when I spent the lot in a few hours! That’s 1.2k! I’ve just worked out an overtime plan to work hard and get this back mentally justifying losses so feeling ok again now.

Anyway back to you. I advise you to see your bank and speak to them about saving plans available to you. Here in the uk we have a new thing called a help to buy ISA I’m now putting £200 a month in that and when it’s time to buy the government add 25% what I’ve saved.
Also cut all ties to gambling. Someone just wrote to me and said all the guys living the high life in Lambos and Ferraris etc would never be living that if they were messing around with gambling! The house always wins and I get that now!

If you do the two things I’ve said above by seeking help in those ways you will feel like progress is being made and you can move on from this.

I’ll be keeping a look at your progress and wish you well mate. Keep posting.
