…is very easy to say for those who have never had children.
For a mother (‘can’t speak for fathers) our children will always be our children. Even when we no longer hold them by the hand , we hold them in our heart. I guess this extends to grandchildren too. I have none.
My take on this feeling of abandonment, Betti, is that part of the Life goes out of a mother when our children make the wrong moves in life . ( I believe in Right and Wrong and I have seen sons/daughter in their 40s asking mothers ” why didn’t you warn me that I was making a mistake!?”) When we become overwhelmed with concern, knowing we have no control over situations, we do two things -we look for an injection of “life”and we try to re gain control.
Gambling, for a CG provides a sick outlet for both.
The only problem is, in choosing “Life” we get “Death”!!
We need to reset out Thinking Process!
