Today I strongly felt this truth – living honestly before God without the substance, behavior and control.

Scripture reminds us that emotions are real, but they are not our master.

2 Corinthians 5:7
“We walk by faith, not by sight”

In our old way of living, we chased predictable feelings. We learned how to manage our moods through substances, habits, or control, deciding in advance how we wanted to feel. Feeling good became the goal.

In recovery, God invites us into something deeper. Our feelings may rise and fall throughout the day, joy in the morning, heaviness by afternoon, restlessness at night. Recovery is no longer about controlling how we feel, but about learning to live honestly before God, whatever we feel.

Sometime we may lose our focus on God, we would turn to substances like nicotine, drug, alcohol…behaviors like workaholism, eating, sex, gambling…to regulate or fix our emotions.

Either we have forgotten or we did not trust God to help us. We are still trying to fix everything ourselves.

Have a cup of hot coffee and quiet time with God, seek God first.

Today I will stop and stay stop in my self-destructive ways. – One day at a time.
