My name is craig and im a compulsive gambler. Gambling had been a part of my life for 7 years. I am currently at GA and its all still fresh at the moment last had a bet on 30th august. My past is bad, very bad in fact payday loans, money from family, lies, stole birthday money, hid my self away you name it ive probably done it. I go to GA as my doctors appointment to get my medicine should i say.
Few nights back something clicked in my head, i was talking to my partner about gambling. And realised i had blocked my self from over 40 sotes online. When i was desperate for a bet id beg the online sites to unblock me, they wouldnt. So i went to the betting shop, and whilst im still on the road to recovery, i barred my self for 5 years. Only to realise that when i had my slip in august they let me i no questions asked.
Now ive emailed all betting shops and the gamblers commision. I realise its a big issue but bookmakers have cards for customers. Why not issue a card that would have simple info and picture along with whether they were banned, as if the person wanted to bet they couldnt it would flash up on the system. Same system would work for casinos etc or just have one universal card for all places. I realise its just a fantasy i should say, but i thought to myself what a great idea. There are new people all the time coming to GA. Even though they stop online, its the bookmakers and casinos i would say are still a major downfall even when you declare yourself as barred. The bookmakers wont police it, this is why this “card” would be beneficial to everyone. I honestly do think this could be the future to further help problem gamblers, but also its not effecting the people who bet because they would still have their cards etc.
Thanks, comments appreciated -

Craig, I think that is a brilliant idea. People could only bet if they had an account with a card. It would also stop underage gamblers and could be extended so that only bets to the gamblers limit are accepted. I really think you are onto something. You need a license to own a car or a dog, you need a national insurance card to work. Why not a license/card to gamble ? Brilliant idea!! Can’t see the bookies, casino owners, national lottery etc going for it. It would cut into their profit no doubt!!
